Peggy and Bernie and the Forty Drawers

May 13, 2009

Since 2001 Bernie and I have been sleeping quite comfortably in the fully functional (wink, wink) queen-sized cab-over bed in our 22’ Winnebago. That bed, as well as the one in the new camper, is surrounded by windows including a picture window out the front. From that window we have enjoyed many beautiful views as well as some really intimate looks at the shoppers at Walmart.

Surely we can condense our lives into 40 drawers. Since 2001 Bernie and I have been sleeping quite comfortably in the fully functional (wink, wink) queen-sized cab-over bed in our 22' Winnebago. That bed, as well as the one in the new camper, is surrounded by windows including a picture window out the front. From that window we have enjoyed many beautiful views as well as some really intimate looks at the shoppers at Walmart.

We decided to repurpose the bedroom in the back of our new RV. The queen-sized bed, the cute little nightlights and the tiny, tiny bedside tables are all gone.

We measured and measured again and yet again and finally, with the help (actually, the leadership) of our friend, Staszek, the master carpenter; we designed and installed a large work/studio table, with the forty drawers beneath. Fully open it is roughly the size of two drafting tables. There is a drop leaf between the two sections that latches into place when we are parked and the slide-out is opened.

Open or closed, we can easily get around it to work or create.

This is a video of the space. The clip is just under 90 seconds, so you can hang with it until the magic moment when the two sides come together and we are ready to drive off.
